The 2024 Volvo EX30: A New Chapter in Volvo's Electric Aspirations
August 22 2023,
Volvo Cars has unveiled its all-new, fully electric Volvo EX30 in a media preview in Montreal, Canada. This new addition to Volvo's growing lineup of electric vehicles marks another significant move as the company works toward becoming a fully electric automaker. The EX30, a compact SUV, combines Volvo's signature Scandinavian design, a commitment to sustainability, and renowned safety features into what could be described as an "espresso shot of Volvo."
Expanding the Electric Lineup
The Volvo EX30 is the company's first small, fully electric SUV, extending the electric vehicle offerings to four distinct models. This new SUV aims to capitalize on the fast-growing demand for fully electric vehicles in this segment. Initially revealed in Milan, the EX30 is specially designed to have the lowest CO2 footprint of any Volvo car so far. Its aesthetics are distinctly electric, featuring a closed shield, a digital version of Volvo's signature Thor's Hammer headlights, and five vibrant exterior colors including Cloud Blue and Moss Yellow—the latter inspired by lichen found on the Swedish west coast.
Performance and Sustainability Unite
The EX30 offers two powertrain options to cater to different customer needs. For those prioritizing range, the Single Motor Extended Range rear-wheel drive variant provides an estimated 442 km between charges. In contrast, performance enthusiasts can opt for the Twin Motor Performance model, which equips the battery with an additional e-motor on the front axle. This all-wheel-drive version of the EX30 boasts 422 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating Volvo car to date.
Volvo has also made strides in sustainability with the EX30. The SUV’s total carbon footprint is designed to be under 30 tons over 200,000 km of driving, an achievement that considers emissions across the entire production and lifecycle of the vehicle, as well as thoughtful material use in the interior and exterior.
Pricing and Availability
With a starting price of $53,700, the MY25 Volvo EX30 qualifies for both Federal and relevant provincial EV incentives. This makes it a competitively priced option for those looking to transition to a fully electric premium SUV. Further details on pricing for both powertrains and equipment levels will be disclosed later this fall on the Volvocars.ca configurator, where customers will be able to place a deposit and reserve their EX30. The vehicle is also the third to be sold under Volvo’s ‘One Price Promise’, which aims to provide a straightforward and transparent shopping experience without the need for negotiation.
The 2024 Volvo EX30 represents both a milestone in Volvo's sustainability goals and a fresh option for consumers in the burgeoning electric SUV market. With its array of powertrain options and a focus on reducing environmental impact, the EX30 is a significant new entry in the segment.
