Volvo Cars Introduces Prime Video and Prepares for YouTube Integration
September 19 2023,
Volvo Cars has taken a significant step forward in enhancing in-car entertainment by integrating Amazon Prime Video into its vehicle software, available for download via Google Play in all markets where Google services are accessible. Notably, Volvo is among the first automakers to offer Prime Video in its vehicle line-up. In addition, the company has announced that YouTube will be added soon to its cars equipped with Google built-in systems.
Starting from September 18, the Prime Video service will be introduced through a phased over-the-air (OTA) update. Erik Severinson, the global head of new car programmes at Volvo, mentioned that the addition of Prime Video and the forthcoming YouTube availability contribute to a continually expanding array of software and applications aimed at improving driver experience. "We are delivering on our promise of building cars that grow with our customers over time," Severinson stated.
While bolstering the in-car entertainment options, Volvo maintains its focus on safety. Consequently, video streaming via Prime Video or YouTube will only be accessible when the vehicle is fully stationary. With the OTA rollout strategy, YouTube will also come pre-installed, further enhancing the vehicle's capabilities for stationary entertainment.
This development underlines Volvo’s ongoing commitment to deliver a robust and evolving software ecosystem for its drivers, complementing their overall driving experience.
